The 14th Malaysian International Food & Beverage (MIFB) 2013 Trade Fair is back!

According to the compiled information from The Malaysia Times Online (May 28) and the Star Online (May 31), the 14th MIFB will take place from June 6 to 8 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur. The three-day event organized by Sphere Exhibits Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Mutiara Sigma (M) Sdn Bhd is estimated to see a large number of exhibitors from around the world showcasing their unique culinary traditions and innovation, which will offer industry players the opportunity to explore new markets. According to the general manager from Sphere Exhibits Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Gerald Lum, this year’s MIFB is expected to attract 23,000 trade visitors and more than 350 exhibitors from 22 countries to participate in the event. They also estimated the fair would generate RM120mil in business deals compared to last year’s 102.3mil.

Apart from that, he also announced in a recent press conference at PWTC that the focus point for this coming 14th MIFB is the Wine Zone, which will be presented for the first time in Malaysia, and will be featuring more than 50 types of wine products from all over the world as wine has been recognized as part current lifestyles. The theme of this special wine zone will be “Taste the Wine, Travel the World”. The purpose of setting up this zone is to give a chance to wine lovers and investors to engage in in-depth discussions with local and overseas wine distributors as well as explore new business opportunities at this wine zone. Daily wine-testing sessions and daily wine master-class sessions are also some interesting activities that can be found in this wine zone.

According to Lum again, the core of the MIFB 2013 is to be a platform for buyers and industry players to discover the exciting food trends and products as well as explore their new business ideas. The major highlight of this upcoming MIFB event is one-on-one business matching sessions with the purpose of helping to bring together like-minded buyers and exhibitors to explore collaborative opportunities for future business. Other minor highlights of the exhibition include the Agro-Bio Business Conference, Walk-the World Country Pavilions, Food Insights and so on.

In addition, agricultural products, processed food and beverages, new and innovative international food & beverage products, traditional Malaysian food and various health and organic food can also be found in the upcoming MIFB 2O13.

Penang Floral Festival 2013 is in the house!

Shifting to another interesting event happening in the north part of Malaysia, The Penang Floral Festival 2013 will be held from 2 June 2013 to 9 June 2013 at the Penang Botanic Gardens. Admission is free of charge. According to the Star Online (June 2), the theme of this Penang Flora Festival is “Penang Floral Paradise” and 57 classes of orchids are the ‘stars’ and highlights for this eight-day festival as well as the bonsai and adenium too. The organizer is expected to draw some 50,000 local and foreign visitors to Penang Botanic Gardens.

Besides enjoying the beautiful orchid flowers, workshops, contests, and exhibitions, classes on floral related topic such as Orchid shows on certain days of the festival such as talks at orchid expert workshops, Natural Education Program daily, canvas shopping bag printing, T-shirt printing and a children’s program can be enjoyed by visitors. Apart from that, visitors can also buy souvenirs such as t-shirts, canvas bags, fertilizers, leaf crafts, quilled cards and painted glass bottles during their visit to the Penang Floral Festival.
Flower fans must not miss this wonderful festival and this is a good opportunity for them to enjoy the flowers, take photos of the beautiful trees and unique plants in the decorated gardens.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics won four gold awards at Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award 2013

According to The Star Online (May 30 & June 3), Samsung Malaysia Electronics won the top prize in four categories at the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards 2013. The four categories were the smart phone, washing machine, refrigerator and flat screen TV. Previously, Samsung Malaysia Electronics received two gold awards in the LCD or Plasma TV (2005-2009) and also flat screen TV (2010-2013) categories. This proves that the company continues to work hard on innovative and relevant development to meet the needs of its consumers.

This year was the 15th Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Survey, which was first launched in 1999 in seven Asian markets (Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand) and conducted annually. Every year, winners are voted entirely by consumers judged based on the assigned six core ideals: quality, value, trustworthiness and credibility, innovation, social responsibility, and understanding of consumer needs. In Malaysia, the selection for the winners of Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards is based on responses from questionnaires distributed to a sample size of more than 235,000.

According to Samsung Malaysia managing director Kwon Jae Hoon, they are honored to continue the winning streak in Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards in recent years and thank their consumers for supporting Samsung products. This recognition motivates them to create even more possibilities by creating newer products and services for people to improve their lives.
